WHAT IS CBD
CBD vs THC
CBD and THC are both types of cannabinoids and are derived from the same plant- Cannabis. This plant has more than 100 cannabinoids but only two (THC and CBD) are well researched. Though structurally similar, both compounds act on the central nervous system, THC has 'high properties' and makes the consumer euphoric. On the other hand, CBD is a non-psychoactive compound that can be extracted both from hemp and marijuana. However, hemp-derived CBD contains less than 0.3% THC and hence is federally legal.
Benefits of CBD
- Manages pain and reduces inflammation - CBD works by acting on CB1 and CB2 receptors that are present throughout the human body. With its anti-inflammatory properties, CBD desensitizes pain receptors and helps to alleviate both acute and chronic pain and inflammation.
- Improves sleep - Research proves that good quality sleep is not only essential for the effective functioning of the body, but it also keeps several health problems at bay. CBD, with its analgesic property, acts as a natural comforter and helps to get you a fixed pattern of quality sleep. This ensures that you have balanced energy levels throughout the day.
- Gets rid of acne and maintains healthy skin - There are several cosmetics out there that promise healthy skin. However, they often come with side effects and leave you unsatisfied. However, CBD has a balancing potential that controls the production of excess sebum (oil) which causes acne. Researchers assert that unlike other cosmetics, CBD does not clog skin and allows the skin to breathe, keeping it afresh. Moreover, it contains Omega3 and Omega6 fatty acids which prevent the loss of excessive water from the skin, keeping it hydrated and preventing radical damage.
- Improves bone health - Our bones become fragile with age, even a small fall can lead to fatal results. Over time, weak bones can also limit mobility and increase dependence on others. Studies prove that incorporating CBD in your routine can promote cell repair. Moreover, it enhances the volume and thickness of unabsorbed cartilage, speeding up the recovery process of fractures. Besides, its regenerative traits add therapeutic value to the spine which keeps bones healthy in the long run.
Peter Greenspoon, MD contributor to Harvard Health confirms CBD's safety. He explains that CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential in humans. Moreover, WHO (World Health Organization) has no dependency potential.
